This was great and quite the statement. From simply, a MAN.

And, as it is common today -

“I grant you a full pre-emptive pardon for any misdeeds you have shown towards your community from 1967 to and through 2030”. Not a day in “the misfit —— prison” shall not be thrust upon you.

I enjoyed this waaaay too much! LOL I'm with you on a lot of it, though I know who Kendrick Lamar and Drake are but don't follow them at all. (Having fairly recent teenagers in my household, and having worked in a high school, I couldn't escape hearing about these folks and their music.)

And you really exposed your non-black self by not knowing that the dance is called a "CRIP" walk, originating in South Central LA, as in the Bloods and Crips. : ) Enjoy your time in prison; I would have been joining you if the aforementioned teenagers hadn't been a recent part of my life! : )

Bravo to you and the Eagles: I've been a Jalen Hurts fan since he was at Alabama. Such a class act.

Thanks for your comments. I like Hurts as well. Alabama did him wrong. I’m a Broncos fan for life so I support any team that puts that belt to the a$$ of the chefs (I like misspelling chiefs or putting them in lower case) Anyway, I thought if the Eagles won it would be in spite of Hurts and because of Barkley. I guess the chefs said we ain’t losing because of Barkley. The post SB press on both Barkley and Hurts has been impressive. Two outstanding young men.

As an Alum of Alabama, I can say that was a no-win situation for either of them. But, Jalen is my favorite player out of the Saban era players, for a number of reasons, but his humility, toughness, faith, and perseverance are the main ones. Also, I was happy the Eagles won too.

Alabama absolutely did him wrong which is when I became a fan, because he handled it with such class. So happy for him!

Agreed, luckily I was working and missed the game and halftime. I’ve lost interest in the halftime show long ago. Too much hype for a 20 minute performance in my opinion. I listen to music mostly from the 60’s , 70’s with some alternative because of a younger daughter. I realized there were a lot of protest songs back then, about losing our liberty and freedom. Today it’s just different. We’re not united against the same ideas anymore but we should be.

It seems as if anyone can sing anything and it's a hit. The artist all sound the same and it's more about booty shaking and dancing rather than singing a song that will last forever. I'll listen to music from the 20's if I hear a tune that catches my ear. Lots of protest songs when I was growing up. Not sure what people are protesting about today and not sure it would translate into a good song. We for sure are not united.

There is a ton of great music from various eras if you can find a curated list. I have found myself getting deep into 1980's and 1970's music, most of which was never all that popular, but was insanely good. A lot of the big band music and jazz from the 1930's-1940's was quite good as well. The key is that curation, but it is getting easier to find lists of it and such. I never much cared for rap, but I still like some of it from my high school years (Pharcyde, FUschnickens, Black Sheep, Tribe Called Quest,...).

Youtube and the music apps can be great for this. You can find music you never realized that you liked (I had no idea what "big band" was until I searched music I liked from a movie). It can be interesting. When I started getting into blues, I learned all about the Missippi delta, Memphis and my home town Chicago's role in the Great Migration. There might be music you love, but do not know it yet.

Loved your comments . I love music. If you like soul/motown you should listen to the red clay strays and jellyroll. Funny how much soul they got.

I listened to Killers by The Red Clay Strays. Excellent tune. Real instruments, real vocals and a song that told a story. Thanks for the intro to this group.

I don't care for hip/hop rap too but then again, I'm a boomer white man. You're sin is unforgivable. Your skin color demands you like it as well as vote Democrat :) In truth, hip/hop singers are not musicians and they aren't making music in my opinion. It's spoken word poetry with a back beat. A legitimate art form as long as it's not racist, narcissistic, mysoganistic, or violent. Since these are the most common themes, most hip hop is garbage. It shouldn't be in the Rock n Roll HOF

Loved what you had to say, Cecil. You just be you, whether you’re black enough is irrelevant. You’re definitely “you” enough, and that’s what counts. As for music preferences, I’m with you about 99%. Some jazz, Motown, British rock from the ‘60s, blues, and a few other genres. Even a tiny bit of disco once in a while, although I won’t admit to that in public. Glad your eagles won, too. And I hope your orange jump suit fits you!

great read Cecil….I watched the show, which is something I don’t usually do, but I didn’t get it either. I’ve also never heard the term “ Cryp Walk”. For the record, I’ll come visit you in the slammer, and bring some great ‘groovin’ tunes!
