Adventures of an Unemployed Man
One day I noticed it had been about 2 weeks since I wore anything other than a pair of shorts, sneakers and a t-shirt.
There are so many interesting aspects to being unemployed. Everyday can be the weekend, since most times it’s challenging to know what day of the week it is.It’s fun going to the grocery store in the middle of the week at 1000 AM with all the other unemployed folks or hanging out at the pool on a Thursday afternoon with our grandsons. One day I noticed it had been about 2 weeks since I wore anything other than a pair of shorts, sneakers and a t-shirt.
After accomplishing my task for the day, I tend to scroll, as we all do, to see what my other unemployed friends are doing.
One friend posted that after retiring, he got a tattoo. I have contemplated doing that, but I have never believed tattoos look good on dark skin, so that’s something I’ll probably never do.
My bride and I are going to the Virgin Islands, and I thought about, getting dreadlocks or getting my ear pierced.
Getting dreadlocks is not something that appeals to me, so getting my ear pierced won.
I asked my bride about getting my ear pierced, half hoping she would think it was a dumb idea.
She thought it was a good idea.
I started checking out men who had earrings. I liked some and disliked others.
My oldest son got his ears pierced after graduating from high school. He went with his mother to get that done. He wore earrings for a while and then stopped. I figured I could do the same thing.
Again, thinking and maybe hoping my wife would talk me out of doing it, I asked her on Monday, when and where we would go someplace and get this ear thing done.
She said tomorrow.
After driving around for an hour, she wasn’t happy with any of the places we stopped at. I was waiting for her to say, “Maybe this isn’t meant to be.”
She never said those words.
We finally found a really nice clean and by the book tattoo parlor that did ear piercings called All Aces Tattoo and Body Piercing “LLC”.
I signed all the required papers and answered the required questions.
I’m so glad this is a procedure done while lying down.
Years ago a lady drew blood from my arm. A blind person could hit my veins with a needle. She missed the vein and drove the needle throw muscle. The pain was the worse I’d felt in a long time.
If I had been standing up, I would have fallen down after the lady in the tattoo shop punched a hole in my ear. I could feel the blood leaving my head going down into my legs. It wasn’t pain that made me cry like a baby, but it was pain I never want to feel again, much like the pain of a needle being driven through muscle before getting to the vein.
Of course when asked, I told my wife and the lady that getting pierced wasn’t so bad.
No need to wonder if I’ll be getting anymore piercings.
So I did it.
Not something anyone would think I’d do, which is partly why I did it. My biggest concerning was, “What will people think?”
After some thought, my answer to that is, “I don’t care what people think one way or the other.”
My body, my choice…
All that matters is my wife likes it and I like it.
Obviously what I’ve done is not for everyone, so if it bothers you all I can say is don’t do it. If I pull the earring out now, the hole will close and no one would be the wiser.
No harm no foul.
I plan to be unemployed for a long time but, should I seek and obtain new employment, my new boss will have to deal with the ear stud.
I think I did a good thing for me.
That’s really what matters.
A stud? No giant hoop? I am sure you, my friend, can pull this off. You already have the cool vibe going for you.
Tattoos kind of turn me off, especially the fact that they get so overdone, so I’m sorta glad you went with the earring.
But then, like you said, what I think really doesn’t matter 😜
