Harrison Butker
Be unapologetic in your masculinity, fighting against the cultural emasculation of men.
Harrison Butker, gave a commencement speech at Benedictine College, a private Catholic college in Atchison, Kansas. He was invited by the school leadership. He did not present himself as a representative of the NFL or the Kansas City Chiefs football team, so there was really no need for the NFL or the Chiefs to distance themselves from him or dox him. He expressed his personal views on faith, and family values and presented himself as a representative of Christ at a private Catholic college. He received a standing ovation at the end of his address.
So why all the hub bub, bud? Butker gave a commencement address in 2023 at Georgia Tech where he expressed some of the same views he used in the 2024 speech given at a private, Catholic college. People Magazine, an arm of the media manipulation machine, wrote, “Butker said during the 2023 speech that he had a "controversial antidote" to young adults' feelings of "loneliness, anxiety and depression": "Get married and start a family.””
I listened to the entire 2024 speech. Perhaps my views are jaded since I am a conservative, Christian, but his speech was spot on. I’m not going to regurgitate the speech but I want to expound on a few points he made that the media manipulators missed or manipulated, as well as give credit where credit is due.
The claim was made by the media manipulators, that Butker said “women belong as homemakers.” What he actually said was:
“I'm on the stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation. I'm beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”
He speaking about his personal life and sharing it as an example. He’s not projecting it on anyone.
He also did not say anything about women being barefooted, pregnant and in the kitchen.
The roll of being a homemaker is an honorable vocation. It is at home where a foundation is built for children before they go into the world. The homemaker is and should be the primary educator of their children. As we view the landscape and witness outside influences leading our children down the road of sin and death shouldn’t the importance of being a homemaker be shared?
Women can be and do whatever they want. My bride didn’t start her career as an educator until she was in her 50’s. She was a homemaker and worked at the daycare our children attended. When they got older she volunteered at their schools until she became a substitute teacher at their schools. She went to school with them and came home with them all the way through high school.
Butker also spoke about the importance of men embracing their role as husbands and fathers. Most of the media manipulators failed to mention this.
“Part of what plagues our society is this lie that has been told to you that men are not necessary in the home or in our communities. As men, we set the tone of the culture, and when that is absent, disorder, dysfunction, and chaos set in. This absence of men in the home is what plays a large role in the violence we see all around the nation. Other countries do not have nearly the same absentee father rates as we find here in the U.S., and a correlation could be made in their drastically lower violence rates, as well. Be unapologetic in your masculinity, fighting against the cultural emasculation of men. Do hard things. Never settle for what is easy. You might have a talent that you don't necessarily enjoy, but if it glorifies God, maybe you should lean into that over something that you might think suits you better.”
A Hollywood “star” had to mention that there is nothing masculine or hard about being a kicker in the NFL. More or less a statement made out of ignorance, hate and jealousy.
I do have to give a shout out to Whoopi Goldberg who said,
"Listen, I like when people say what they need to say. He's at a Catholic college, he's a staunch Catholic. These are his beliefs and he's welcome to them. I don't have to believe them. I don't have to accept them. The ladies that were sitting in that audience do not have to accept them." She added, "The same way we want respect when Colin Kaepernick takes a knee, we want to give respect to people whose ideas are different from ours."
It’s crazy but I agree with her. As a former member of the military, I do not agree with Kaepernick taking a knee, but I’d defend his right to do it.
It seems our right to free speech is only protected if you speak in support liberal causes. One comment made concerning Butker’s speech was “everyone who disagrees is an opponent if not an enemy to be defeated.” The inference is that if you don’t agree with Butker’s views you are the enemy and must be defeated.
The inference is not totally incorrect as the Bible is clear that the enemy must be defeated. Butker is not speaking in some physical confrontation, but through prayer, and not being afraid to speak up and stand up for truth. He’s not speaking in terms of cancelling people, or sending out your personal information to strangers so they can make threats on you and your family. That’s what liberals do as we look at all the negative comments from Hollywood elitist who disagree and believe Butker should be financially and publicly defeated.
The NFL, a male dominated organization, made it clear they don’t support the personal views expressed by Butker, given at a private Catholic college, where he presented himself as a representative of Christ. Thanks for making his point about “the cultural emasculation of men”.
The irony in this is had Butker gone to a private Catholic college and talked about being pro-abortion, and spoke in glowing terms about the LGBTQ++++ community, Hollyweirdos and the media manipulators would be singing his praises from the highest mountains.
As I close, I see in my mind the faces of people in the NFL, who never fail to miss a chance to get in front of a camera and profess their faith.
Other than Lou Holtz, former college football coach, where is are those people now?
-No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord. Isaiah 54-17.
What we need is more leaders like Harrison standing up his conservative beliefs. I happen to agree with him and salute his commitment to himself and his values.
My old feminist take is his speech was a rebuke of the materialistic and loose morals culture advertised everywhere, and as we see with too many male athletes and Hollyweirdos. Stop and consider that he and his wife met in middle school, and I assume from his speech he was committed to her right away. He didn't grow up, unzip his pants and "sow wild oats." Women hear plenty about what our role should be and how we must be the "gatekeepers," but it's rare, imo, to hear a speech about morals directed at males. That is why the NFL responded, not because they're suddenly the defenders of female opportunity. It was a great speech and may his influence spread.
